It’s that time of year, back to school! As a parent, you are preparing your kids books, pencil cases and clothing. You want to also make sure you pay special attention to their lunches and pack a healthy (tooth-friendly) lunch. This will help protect them against cavities!
Selecting the right foods for their lunch not only protects their teeth, but helps keep their bodies and mind fuelled. Some of the best foods for them are the ones with calcium and vitamin D. Calcium is responsible for building strong tooth enamel and the vitamin D helps the tooth to absorb it. Vitamins A and C are also important. Be sure to avoid carbohydrates, sugars and starches as much as possible. These contribute to the development of cavities!
Here are some ideas of what to pack:
Cheese
Milk
Yogurt
Fruits + Veggies (Carrots, Celery, Pears, Kiwis, Oranges)
Tuna
Hard-Boiled Eggs
Chicken
Turkey
Chicken Soup
Water
Packing a healthy lunch is an important part of establishing good oral habits. Start the school year off right with the kids and pack a tooth-friendly lunch!
