If you love indulging in sweet treats, you aren’t in complete trouble. The good news is that you can still enjoy them, as long as you take good care of your teeth!
One key tip is to brush your teeth often! You should try to minimize the amount of time that sugar stays on your teeth. The longer the sugar stays on your teeth, the faster the bacteria eats it and produces acid which wears down your tooth enamel. If you are without a toothbrush, you can use mouth wash or water to rinse your mouth.
Another option to protect your teeth after indulging, is to chew sugar-free gum. The increase in saliva production from chewing gum will help to remove the sugar on your teeth.
If you can choose to swap out your sweet treat for another option such as fruit, we suggest you do! However, if you don’t want to swap your piece of cake for an apple, we understand! You can still make some better choices for your teeth. For example, a slide of pound cake does not have the same effects as sticky toffee pudding which may leave more sugar on your teeth!
